Learn the Alphabet with Animal Coloring Pages
Children remember what they enjoy. Pairing each letter with an animal they get to color gives the alphabet a face, a color and a story. Here is a simple routine you can follow at home or in class.
Step 1: Start with the letter sound
Choose a letter, for example A. Say its name and its sound together: "A says /a/." Keep it short and cheerful. On ColorFun, the A to Z strip lets your child tap any letter and jump straight to its animals.
Step 2: Meet the animal
Open the page, for example "A for Ant". Press the Listen button so your child hears the phrase, then say it together two or three times. Ask what the animal looks like and where it lives.
Step 3: Color it in
Let your child pick the colors. While they work, repeat the letter now and then: "Ant starts with A. What other things start with A?" Do not correct the colors; the goal is to connect the letter, the sound and the picture.
Step 4: Show and tell
When the picture is done, ask your child to hold it up and say the phrase again. Save the page or print it and collect all 26 to make a small alphabet book.
A weekly plan that works
- Monday to Thursday: one new letter a day.
- Friday: review the week's pictures and ask your child to find each letter.
- Weekend: free coloring from any category, such as space, food or dinosaurs.
Tips for teachers
Print the pages and give each child a different letter. Join them on a classroom wall to build a giant A to Z animal chart, and let children present their letter to the group.
